i met a kid named Peter Vezolles while skating the Jekyll Island Civic Center when i was a kid…our parents were in the same hotel, so we skated together all week….long story short. i came up to Atlanta (Kennesaw) to skate with Peter and his homies once. we went to shit i never dreamed possible with more skaters at each spot than i even thought existed  (aside from California and magazines)….we skated 3 way bump for fucking hours! we were 13. it was amazing! it also cemented my “forever” with skating i believe…..i wasn’t that weird after all….Jones County? Never heard of it. so does it really exist?…where the hell is Peter Vezolles? Cory Hainline may know? i met Ian Mcpherson, i’m sure of it, that weekend too at some shopping plaza curb across from Sprayberry Highschool, circa ‘91….weird….but not as weird as stills of the hottest trick at the time….that up there sir, be a pressure flip over the hip of 3 way bump….

before there were concrete parks everywhere….there was Louisville KY…and what a rad spot! the Atlanta homies would roll up (a few carloads deep) and meet the Midwest homies (with more carloads deep) and get a good weekend of drinking and skating 13′ full pipes, snake runs filled with bikers and pure comedy at the park after the bars let out…it’s lit 24hours…cheap ass hotel rooms and cheaper budgets…

… we did this trip atleast once a year but this time was odd, cause as we showed up., the park’s block was the only block in the entire city that’s electricity was out. apparently a car hit a power pole…so we’re sittin there all night…drinkin beer and catchin up with old friends when Thrasher dudes roll in…Jake, Salba and Drehobl…Jake is millin about with us….does a back disaster in the 13′ bowl in pitch black…then tells me i’m a pussy for not skating it with him…

…the Indiana guys show up along with the ‘Nati’s dudes, G. Collins, Kokomo Joe and others….we’re all bullshittin, gettin drunk and Andrew Hutch pulls out his generator and lights up some part of the snake run…shit got real live then…tons of Atlantans, Indiana, Ohio and Thrasher homies started rippin around…i got a photo of Graham hittin a Salad and Stormy’s Smith…..

…the next morning we get to the park and Gainesville GA’s own, Chris Bradley shows up fresh off the 12 hour Greyhound from Chicago to shred for the weekend and apparently Scott Mckenzie drove 14 hours after work, all night and went straight to the beer cooler and full pipe…sleep when yer dead….tomorrow never comes….

…the top photos are Chris Bradley’s nap’s….the line-up photos are Graham Bix, baby Grant Taylor, Stormy, Gary Collins, Gay Scott and myself…the last flick is Gary and Jake Phelps, who got weird as fuck conversation-wise all weekend…..Raffles left early on Sunday to head back to Atlanta and stopped at the park and said Drehobl slept at the park and was doing front inverts in the 13′ bowl at 10a.m……legend status!

…we were bored somewhere in our 20’s…and a buncha dudes (who couldn’t get enough of each other on a daily basis) moved into some shit hole house in East Atlanta back when it was still “for real hood, like don’t go past that stop sign down there after 10 or so” and named it the Dogshit House…was quite fun. I wasn’t dumb enough to move in, but spent many days and nights posted up on the porch….i observed a few things in that quick year…Chris Head became a really loud “folk” singer, quit his sponsors mid trip, and went back to get his masters degree…..Phil Kent made up “sticky rain opportunities” for girls…Nick Turner got drunk and turned into rap phenom “Eddie Epo”…Mike Swett annoyed everyone with air drums…Matt Creasy grew up and learned to adapt with society (i.e. no more pounds of pepper on plain hamburgers with no bun, strict Sunny Day Real Estate C.D.’s, etc..), we learned Nick Hogan shakes his ass better than most ghetto trash and every night there was a party across the street from the crack house. The Dogshit House….Everyone has their own crew. And everyone’s crew is the most ridiculous and craze. But I’d really like to hear factual evidence that could top this ridiculous shit. Because this is the only shred of evidence i could find that this ever existed…….i had been done  forgot about it…..

…love ‘em or hate ‘em, but Stratosphere has been around since before most of you were born. and they held down our city way before it was called the dirty south son. the thing i like best about these two photos are that these two are typically ramp dudes…however, if you’ve ever been apart of the downtown scene, you’d know that there are no ramp, street, ledge, “game of skate” skateboarding here. it’s hit and go. skate what is in front of you….Ryan Wilburn (nose skidder) and Thomas Taylor (top rope jump) are ripper status….thank god there are people who thought and still think in this manner….skateboarding is whack enough as it is….
